At our most recent Board meeting, we decided on the dates for the National Rally. It will be Tuesday, May 31st to Sunday, June 5th.
The loose plan is to meet in VA either in Front Royal or Waynesboro, depending if we want to ride Skyline Drive or not, then continue South through the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We would then spend a few days at Deal's Gap and the surrounding area. An event was created on Facebook on our CSBA page there. If you are on Facebook, please make sure to indicate whether you are coming or not (see link below). It will help with planning. More details will come together in the coming months, including motels we will be staying at and pricing.
Considerations for traveling on Skyline Dr. It is a toll road and costs $15 per motorcycle. It is approximately 100 miles long and has a 35 mph speed limit that is strictly enforced. It will realistically take a half day to get through it. If we want to only take 2 days to get to Deal's Gap, my recommendation would be to meet in Waynesboro and head South from there on the morning of the 31st. Please post your thoughts either here or on the FB event.

Thanks for posting this up. I am willing to lead a group up the back way home from Deals Gap through Tennessee and West Virginia, if there is interest. A rider with our Eastern PA chapter took that way and discovered some epic roads.

So far, I will be planning on coming in on Friday afternoon to Robbinsville. That is our loose plan. I have no desire to trickle down the Skyline Drive. I will likely run some of the back roads headed out west starting on Wednesday and taking our sweet time (sight seeing along the way) headed that way through NC or Western VA. Joel (he has been to a past rally or two) and I will keep it to street only since his bike is an ST1100. We have been in talks to do a ride where we do a bit of sightseeing along the way. We always seem to pass by a lot of great things we always say we are going to go back to, and never do. I think Chimney Rock may be on the radar. That way we can hit some great roads along the way also.

I have a scheduling conflict for this week and won't be able to attend. I look forward to hearing about the trip and seeing pics.

I have to get vacation time in very early (like by December the latest) due to the demand of everyone wanting to take vacations during the warmer months and being limited to only using 2 weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day. I am actually on vacation time the week before, so I almost got lucky.

Christy and I are planning on riding down to the area around Hickory, NC on Tuesday and making our way over to Robbinsville on Thursday. We are looking forward to hanging with the group once again this year. It looks like this is the same weekend that the OhioRiders.net group will be down there as well.

Post up when you have hotel information for Robinsville. I'll note the dates on the calendar.
