Ride Report

The day dawned bright, clear, and cool. J-mac met up with me for the ride to the diner and it was 55 degrees outside. Except for a few errant deer and some four wheel vehicles that like pulling out in front of me, the ride out to the diner was nice. We took a two detours on the way to the diner, one we knew about and one we didn't. We both got gas before going to the diner where we met up with Sid. Inside we had a good breakfast and then went outside to meet up with Rick. After the pre-ride briefing and prayer for safety, we were off. On the way up US 15 we saw four or more PA State Police troopers, but none of us got any "performance awards". :) After turning off of US 15 we hit some twisty roads going north, except for some "road apples" left behind by some Amish horses the roads were really good. We stopped for gas in a small town and then resumed our trek up to Williamsport. Once we arrived up there we had some fantastic food at our lunch stop and I shared some Scriptures, then we started our journey towards home. I had set up one more twisty road until the end of the ride but was detoured off of it. We got to our end spot on the ride, re-fueled our bikes and headed South. We mixed it up with some touring roads, highways, and some twisties. Each rider broke off as they got close to home. Thanks to all five participants of the ride, we had a good time. The Scriptures are below, our next ride is July 9th. Proverbs 1:1-7

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction

This is the start of a series I am starting on the attributes of a wise, godly man. Proverbs is a book written nearly 3000 years ago, it is an ancient text, yet it has timeless wisdom. It was written as a guide for young men coming of age, probably late teens/ early 20's. It addresses many topics that are relevant even today. It has both serious and humorous proverbs both included to add instruction and wisdom to the young as well as the old. Within the above passages were a lot of words that we have all encountered, but I still looked some up in the dictionary to gain insight. Below is a short list, I found that I learned a bit more from looking up definitions.
    Wisdom (wise)- the power of judging rightly and following the soundest course of action base on knowledge, experience, and understanding.
    Discipline- training that develops self control, character, orderliness, and efficiency.
    Prudent- capable of exercising sound judgement in practical matters
    Discretion- being careful about what one does and says
    Knowledge- all that has been perceived or grasped by the mind; learning, enlightenment
    Discerning- having or showing good judgement or understanding, astute

As I survey this list I can instantly see the value and strongly desire this for myself. It is a pursuit worth a lifetime to achieve. It is the attributes of a wise or godly man; one who has gained the respect of others due to his wise words and actions. The last verse from this passage speaks of the fear of the Lord. This is not a terror or anxiety, but instead a fearful respect as we would have with meeting an official. We would address them with respect and have our words be careful and well spoken. We should look at and address the Lord in the same way. Yet, He longs to impart wisdom into our lives. One of the ways we gain this wisdom is by reading and considering the Proverbs. We'll spend the rest of this year reviewing some of these Proverbs. God bless all, I'll talk to you next month.
